The Heart of Our Centre: Your Role in Nurturing a Healthy Future

As the heart of our centre’s nutritional program, our Cook plays a vital role in the daily joy and long-term development of our children. You will be more than just a cook; you will be a key contributor to our educational mission, introducing children to a world of delicious, healthy foods and creating positive food experiences that will last a lifetime. You will work within a supportive, collaborative team of educators in a positive and joyful environment.

Location: London ON

Your Contributions to Our Children’s Well-being

  • Design, prepare, and serve nutritious, age-appropriate, and delicious meals and snacks based on Canada’s Food Guide, fostering healthy eating habits from an early age.
  • Meticulously manage, document, and communicate all dietary restrictions, substitutions, and allergies, ensuring the absolute safety and well-being of every child in our care.
  • Maintain an impeccably clean and organized kitchen environment, adhering to and exceeding all regional public health and food safety standards to guarantee a safe food preparation space.
  • Manage the kitchen budget effectively, including menu planning, grocery ordering, and maintaining inventory of food and supplies.
  • Collaborate with our team of Early Childhood Educators to plan food-related activities, introduce new tastes and textures, and integrate nutrition education into the daily curriculum in a fun and engaging way.
  • Foster a positive and welcoming atmosphere around food, encouraging children to be curious and adventurous eaters.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, communication, and care in all interactions with children, staff, and parents.

  • The ability to remain calm, flexible, and adaptable in a busy, dynamic environment.
  • Valid Food Handler Certification (required).
  • A clear Vulnerable Sector Check (required).
  • Culinary Arts diploma or equivalent professional cooking experience, particularly in an institutional or large-scale setting (preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide, childhood nutrition principles, and common childhood allergies.

Schedule

  • Expected hours: 35-40 hours per week
  • Monday – Friday schedule (8:00 AM – 2:00 PM)

Experience

  • Professional Cooking: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification

  • Food Handler Certification (required)
